My goal is to serve immigrants by teaching English because
communities are stronger
when all voices are heard.
About Mary Ulin
Over half of the population in San Marino has immigrated from China and Taiwan. They are well educated and affluent, but often frustrated by their lack of fluency in English when they are navigating within a predominantly
English speaking country.
As a resident of San Marino for over twenty years, I have been a leader in my community, serving as San Marino Schools Foundation president, Partnership for Awareness president.
Currently I serve on the
Crowell Public Library Foundation Board,
and I am
San Gabriel Valley Literacy Council
president-elect.
Teaching Methods
We will only speak English in our lessons. Each lesson will begin with a presentation of the material, then we will practice it together until you are ready to confidently produce English. While at UCLA, I learned several different teaching methods, which I incorporate into my lessons so that I can adapt to your learning style.

Before each lesson, I will email my students "pre-work."
By seeing the material before class, we will be able to spend more time practicing speaking and listening.

My greatest joy is watching students succeed and unlock their own potential.
